Day 4 Last Day of VBS

 This week is just speeding by! It is already the fourth and last day of VBS. We have been blessed with an awesome team! Our team shout is appropriate “Yay God”!  

The team was able to do a little bit of shopping before the afternoon VBS session. Of course, there was ice cream involved! 

And…Froot Loops? 




We were fascinated that eggs were sold in bags lol!

We had 33 children come to this brand new little church today, along with several parents and grandparents. The joy from the children’s and adults’ laughter was a beautiful thing. It was definitely medicine for our souls!


The children had lots of opportunity to hear God’s word while playing, singing and with the lesson and skit. 




 







We even had a budding guitarist in our midst.

When it was time to end the VBS, pastor Mark made balloon characters for all the kids. They were overjoyed and gladly waited while he and the team gave them each something special. 
   

It was very emotional to end the program, because most of the children had come to be with us for more than just one day. We got to know them by name and spent time building a loving, Christ centered foundation with them. These children are the seeds to be nurtured in hope of growing a church community. We will miss each and every one of these pure hearts.



We had our last full team dinner as Dave and Nate had to return home a day early due to a commitment. It was a nice evening. We sang the doxology and Pastor Roldán, Ruth, and Yolanda sang it again in Spanish for us. It was so beautiful. I didn’t catch the whole thing but here is some: 

Kaleigh gave Pastor Roldán a beautiful quilt made by the ladies from the LWML Ann Arbor Chapter. He was deeply touched. It will be hung in the church.


Later in the evening pastor Mark gave us communion with an abbreviated church service at the hotel. We needed to be spiritually fed after the busy week. 



 We prayed for a safe journey home for Dave amd Nate as well as healing for our team so that we can be refreshed.

Tomorrow is our recreational day at The Mayan ruins in Lamanai. We are looking forward to an awesome day with a boat ride and the close camaraderie that our team has developed over these days!

Church!

 Sunday was our first full day in Belize. Our accommodations, while different from those in the US, are clean and more than sufficient for our needs.  We started our day with a wonderful breakfast made by pastor’s family, then we hit the road for a couple of hours handing out flyers to folks in the neighborhood, inviting the children (and parents) to VBS. The weather was very hot and humid. We started strong, but after a couple of hours we were more than ready to find a cool spot to restore ourselves. The temperature was in the low 90’s but with almost 100% humidity, the index was closer to 100.               I had a nice surprise for lunch. Our host bought a huge cake to celebrate my birthday! I was so touched that I cried ☺️ This was a first for me, having a birthday in a country I’d never been to, with people that I either  casually knew or not all, and it was the best ever!   Later we had our first visit to the church for Sunday evening service. Day 3 Go Team!👏

Hello everyone! Today was day three of VBS. After breakfast we went shopping for snacks and souvenirs at a large grocery store, then had lunch at Pastor’s home. The food has been very tasty and nourishing. We will all most likely be a few pounds heavier by the time we go home!  After lunch, Pastor Roldán cut branches from his palm tree for our children’s reenactment of Jesus’ walk into Jerusalem. Today was our fun and casual shirt day. Pastor Mark’s shirt was very fashionably adorned with flamingos . Today we had several older children come to VBS. They played catch with the football outside as we were receiving other kids. There are already some pretty good throwing arms😊 Some members of our team were doing last minute quality checks on the equipment.  Dean made sure the crayons were not too melty (heat index over 100 degrees and no breeze) Just kidding, Dean! Getting Ready!

 This week has been busy. Our church had an ordination and installation ceremony for the new pastor. Also, we were invited to the church services to receive blessings for our upcoming Belize mission trip. We have so many generous supporters that made it possible for 15 of us to travel and spread God’s word to a community through VBS! Thanks and blessings to every one of you!  I’m sure everyone is in the midst of packing - I have now repacked twice. I picked too many items, so after paring down, I still had too many! I’m sure my teammates are having similar issues:) it’ll work out. I may be recycling a couple of outfits.  I am very excited, and admittedly a little nervous as this is my first mission trip. But I know I have a great team to guide me and we will be truly a team that works as one.  I did get a solar Bluetooth speaker as an early birthday gift. Hopefully it will be put to good use for some music for the kiddos. I am looking forward to spreading God’s word to the community as
